Prop Drop is a surface design studio creating bespoke painted surfaces, textured backdrops and decorative finishes for photography, film and interiors.

Working with colour, texture and layered painting techniques, we create distinctive surfaces and painted environments that bring depth, character and atmosphere to a space or image. From bespoke photographic backdrops to specialist decorative finishes and murals, each project is developed around the individual brief.

About Charlie Stuart-Grumbar

Prop Drop was founded by artist and scenic painter Charlie Stuart-Grumbar, whose practice is rooted in a love of colour, texture and the transformative possibilities of paint.

After training in performance design at Central Saint Martins, Charlie has spent over 12 years working across film, editorial and theatre as a set designer and scenic artist. This experience informs her approach to surface design, combining an understanding of visual storytelling with the craft and technical skill of scenic painting.

Prop Drop grew from a desire to create distinctive, handcrafted painted surfaces for photography and film. The practice has now expanded into decorative arts, exploring traditional painting techniques, specialist finishes and larger-scale painted work.

Whether developing a bespoke backdrop, creating a decorative finish or transforming a space through paint, the aim is always to make something individual, considered and full of character.
